Templar Class from All Saints Marsh C of E Academy has enjoyed an unforgettable day of immersive learning, beginning with a behind‑the‑scenes visit to Plymouth Magistrates’ Court and ending with an exciting afternoon at The Box. The experience offered pupils a rare opportunity to explore the justice system first‑hand, meet a judge, and take part in a fully interactive mock trial.

During their visit to the Magistrates’ Court, the children were welcomed by a serving judge who answered their many thoughtful questions. They learned how court hearings are structured, the different types of cases that come before magistrates, and the many years of training required to become a judge. One fact that sparked plenty of laughter was the famous real‑life legal debate over whether a Jaffa Cake should be classed as a cake or a biscuit—a story that quickly became a class favourite.

The highlight of the morning was Templar Class’s own courtroom re‑enactment. The children confidently took on the roles of ushers, barristers, a clerk, witnesses, and members of the jury, while the judge presiding over the case wore a real cloak and wig worth an astonishing £500. Their case centred on Selina, a 13‑year‑old accused of harassment for sending abusive and threatening messages in a WhatsApp group. The pupils approached the scenario with maturity, curiosity, and impressive understanding, bringing the courtroom to life as they worked together to reach a verdict.

In the afternoon, the class continued their learning adventure at The Box. They were captivated by the towering woolly mammoth, immersed themselves in Plymouth’s history through a 3D experience, and even tried their hand at presenting the news using the interactive green screen. Their enthusiasm was so great that many asked if they could stay longer.

Head Teacher Liam O’Sullivan praised the children’s engagement throughout the day, saying:

“Our pupils were absolutely inspired by this experience. They showed real curiosity, confidence, and respect as they explored the justice system and the history of Plymouth. Opportunities like this broaden their horizons and help them understand the world beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of them.”

The children themselves were eager to share their excitement:

“I loved being part of the trial—it felt so real!” said one pupil. “The judge’s wig was amazing! I didn’t know it cost so much,” added another. “The 3D experience at The Box was my favourite. I learned so much about Plymouth and I didnt want to leave,” shared a third.

The school extends a heartfelt thank‑you to the PTFA, whose generous support helped subsidise the trip and ensured every pupil could take part in this memorable day.

A huge thank‑you also goes to the staff at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court and The Box for creating such an engaging, educational, and inspiring experience for the children.

The Learning Academy Partnership continues to champion exceptional opportunities for all pupils, ensuring every child can access experiences that enrich their education and expand their understanding of the world.
